We watched Japanese films, discussed themes and interesting, unique techniques, and then wrote an essay on a tiny detail or thought in the movie weekly. Initially I thought that writing a paper on a documentary would be boring, but it was quite interesting; it was the paper I had the most fun writing. This class and especially this paper has taught me to think more critically and to always ask follow-up questions. I also learned to keep an open mind and try something new to make a supposedly “boring” project more enjoyable.

I love the tight knit sense of community within the honors program. I appreciate the focus and interest in interdisciplinary, what I believe to be the future. I look forward to taking an array of unique classes that will broaden my knowledge. As I reflect on my first quarter at the UW and being in the honors program, I’ve come to realize how special and adventurous my experience at UW will be for the next 4 years. I look forward to looking back on my portfolio and getting a glimpse into the growth of my thoughts and ambitions.
